Sunghee Lee, PhD, Chair of Chemistry at Iona College to Receive Award from the American Chemical Society

New Rochelle, NY (August 9, 2012) Sunghee Lee, PhD chair of the chemistry department at Iona College has been selected to be a recipient of the 2012 Women Chemists Committee (WCC) Rising Star award.

The announcement from the American Chemical Society states Dr. Lee is being recognized for “excellence in the development and understanding of the liquid-liquid interface, and passionately nurturing the talents of a large array of undergraduates in publishable research projects.”

 “Given Dr. Lee’s demonstrated commitment to research and teaching, particularly at the undergraduate level, her success and outstanding promise for contributions to the field moving forward, I can think of no one more deserving of this honor than Dr. Lee,” said Dr. Jeanne Zaino, interim dean of the School of Arts and Science.

This award recognizes ten (10) exceptional women scientists approaching mid-level careers across all sectors [academic, industrial, government and non-profit] who have demonstrated outstanding promise for contributions to their respective fields.

Dr. Lee will present her work at an awards symposium to be held at the 245th National Meeting of the ACS in New Orleans, LA on Monday, April 8th 2013. Dr. Lee will be recognized at the WCC Luncheon reception on Tuesday April 9th.
