In light of the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Sandy, I want to share some helpful and important emergency preparedness information with you. As of this time, the prediction is that Hurricane Sandy will make landfall south of New York City sometime late night on Monday, October 29th to early morning on Tuesday, October 30th.
This email is intended to provide some information necessary for you to properly prepare for the impending storm. I would ask that all vehicles left on campus overnight, be parked in the parking garage on one of the upper levels in cases of local flooding. Any faculty, staff or administrator who reside in the area of the college are welcome to leave their vehicles in the parking garage for safety, again on the upper levels.
Please review the Emergency Preparedness information on our website and make sure you have the appropriate supplies in advance of the storm's arrival, especially flashlights, fresh batteries, and any medications you may need.
We will communicate with you during this storm by our text messaging system, email and notices posted on the homepage of our website as we continue to monitor the storm. I sent out a test text message at approximately 1:30 pm on Friday, October 26. If you did not receive it, please sign up or update your information for text messaging at: http://www.iona.edu/studentlife/safety/campusalert.cfm.
Again, we will maintain communications with you through text messaging during the period we are impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The shuttle service will also be suspended during the time period that New Rochelle is impacted by the hurricane.
We encourage all members of our community to be safe and make responsible decisions when travelling during periods of inclement weather. We also encourage you to comply with the directions of the City of New Rochelle, County of Westchester and all emergency personnel related to travel and safety.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Charles J. Carlson
