New Rochelle, NY (February 4, 2013) Iona College will host the 51st Annual Trustee Award Dinner on Friday, April 12, at the iconic Waldorf Astoria New York. The 2013 Iona College Legacy Awards will be presented to Mario J. Gabelli, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of GAMCO Investors, Inc., and Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Esq. ’88, Iona alumnus and Chairman & Managing Director of Gibbons P.C. The award was created to acknowledge unique individuals who have chosen to give of themselves and their resources to benefit the lives of others.
The Honorable Raymond W. Kelly ’08H and the New York City Police Department will receive the inaugural 2013 Blessed Edmund Rice Humanitarian Award. This international award will be given each year to a person or organization who has demonstrated the selfless dedication of BLESSED EDMUND RICE.
“It is fitting that this year’s celebration occurs in the same academic year as the recognition of the 250th birthday of the founder of the Christian Brothers, Blessed Edmund Rice,” said Iona College President Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D. "His passion for service has been a hallmark of an Iona education for over 70 years. Iona College was founded on the principle that higher education is the doorway to a better life and a better world. That principle still holds true today as the funds raised for this year’s event will ensure that Iona students are prepared to become successful contributors to society."
