Iona College Honors Three Employees with Staff and Administrator of the Year Awards

New Rochelle, NY (February 13, 2013) Each year the Staff and Administrative Council (SAC) offers an opportunity to recognize publically some of Iona’s most impressive staff and administrator colleagues.   This year’s honorees were announced and acknowledged at the State of the College Meeting on Tuesday, February 12. The recipients of the 2013 Brother Timothy Bray Staff and Administrator of the Year Awards are Maureen Bock, Information Technology, PC Repair Specialist; Andy Albrecht, Facilities, Grounds Manager; and Sue Romagnoli, Mission and Ministry, Assistant Office Manager.

After an invocation from Michele Sampson, director of off-campus housing, Ms. Sampson introduced this year’s recipients for full-time staff person of the year award, Maureen Bock. Maureen maintains and repairs computers, printers, projectors, helps run data lines and installs new equipment. She also provides users with set-up for their presentations. Anthony Scaccia, data/com work station services manager and Maureen’s supervisor, wrote, “Working with Maureen is great. When parents and future Iona students walk into McSpedon Hall, Maureen always asks them if they need help. On moving day she talks to the incoming freshman while she sets up their laptops and tries to make them feel comfortable while they wait. She continually goes out of her way for the campus community whether faculty, staff, students or prospective students. She will go above and beyond to ensure that everyone’s needs are met in a timely, efficient and friendly manner. Maureen always has a smile.”

Andy Albrecht received the full-time administrator of the year award. Mr. Albrecht has been the facilities grounds manager for more than 17 years, and oversees the care of the campus grounds and maintenance of the vehicles.

Mark Murphy, director of facilities, and Andy’s supervisor, stated, “Andy is a hands-on manager. He is always out there with his men working alongside of them whether in the cold of winter or heat of the summer. He is an extremely hard worker and an excellent manager. He is always willing to take on any task that is asked of him. He has a talent for transforming seedy areas into beautiful ones. A perfect example is the many retaining walls and planting areas that he and his men have done on campus. He would never ask his men to do anything that he would not do himself.  Andy has always been willing to sit on any committee and bring his enthusiasm with him. Andy has taken advantage of the tuition remission program by getting his bachelor’s degree and is now finishing up his master’s. Andy is a true asset to Iona College.”

The part-time staff person of the year was awarded to Sue Romagnoli, who has worked at Iona since July 2010. Ms. Romagnoli serves as the front-desk person in the Mission and Ministry office and handles an active department with many student visitors and inquiries.  Sue oversees important administrative functions of the department:  preparing weekly mass and newsletter programs, overseeing data collection on student community service, handling paperwork for Iona in Mission applicants, updating the website, and keeping budget records. 

Carl Procario-Foley, director of the Office of Mission and Ministry and Sue’s supervisor, noted, “We are very blessed to have in Sue Romagnoli a very student-centered, compassionate administrator who gives of herself one hundred percent and helps keep the department super organized.  In addition, she has gone above and beyond her duties as a moderator on two mission trips, to Peru and to West Virginia.  As efficient and productive as she is, Sue helps cultivate in our front office a ‘home away from home’ feeling with her welcoming spirit and listening ear.”

The Brother Timothy Bray Award is named in honor of the well-loved Christian Brother and member of the Counseling Center who died in the fall of 2010. The award recipients exemplify the following characteristics: living the Iona Mission in their daily work, being lifelong learners and skilled in their profession, going above and beyond their own job responsibilities to help serve the greater Iona community, demonstrating a commitment to Iona, believing in the values of Iona, serving as positive representatives of Iona to the greater New Rochelle community, and being ethical and skilled decision makers, approachable, positive and respectful of others’ time and work.

Each recipient received an inscribed plaque and a gift bag, compliments of Iona College Athletics, Barnes & Noble and Chartwells Dining Services.
