The following four-year plan is a quick glance at how the Center for Career Development can help you prepare for a satisfying career after graduation.
Freshman Year - become familiar with the Career Center and declare major:
- Register with GAELlink, our online career management system, to receive updates on events, workshops and job opportunities
- Utilize online tools to explore major/career options and your interests and skills
- Meet with an academic advisor to determine requirements for majors you are considering
Sophomore Year - explore your career options:
- Utilize online tools to research career fields and learn about specific occupations
- Consider part-time jobs, paid internships or job shadowing to gain experience
- Join an academic club or extracurricular activities that relate to your career interests
Junior Year - gain practical experience:
- Prepare a resume and practice effective interviewing techniques
- Begin investigating credit and paid internships to gain experience in your career field
- Network and build contacts at the annual Meet a Career Mentor event and Career Expo
Senior Year - prepare for your job search and/or graduate school:
- Attend workshops to learn about resources to assist you in your job search
- Utilize online resources to pursue potential graduate schools
- Participate in on-campus recruiting, resume referral, Career Expo and job postings
