Success and Survival
Take a look through our Success and Survival Guide for suggestions on Academic Success Strategies, Managing Academic Stress and other information available on this website.
Welcome to Iona College! Our faculty, administration, staff and students are delighted that you have chosen to become a member of the Iona College community. We believe that a special part of the mission of Iona College is the high level of caring, concern, advocacy and mentoring that are available to you on our campus. Whether you are a 17 or 18 year old first-year student, an older returning adult student, a graduate student, or a parent of a student, there are appropriate and helpful resources available for you at Iona. Your Student Handbook describes each of these resources in detail.
Some examples of resources and services you should learn more about include:
Each of these offices is staffed by individuals who are committed to assisting you in negotiating the college environment as effectively as possible, in getting the most out of your college years - intellectually, socially, spiritually, culturally and emotionally - and in successfully completing your academic career at Iona College.
Recognizing that coming to college is a major life transition, professionals in our student support services have created the Iona College Success and Survival Guide as an introduction to students (and parents) to some of the issues that may be encountered on the college campus. We have included academic and career, as well as personal, mental health, physical health, and social concerns. At the end of each topic we have noted specific resources on our campus and in our community that you can turn to for further assistance. We have also included a section for parents on how to be helpful during the transition to college and thereafter.
We urge you to take full advantage of all of the resources available to you at Iona. Whether you are having difficulty adjusting to college life, deciding upon a career, juggling your roles as student, employee, family member, and friend, feeling stressed out, or even coping with a serious personal problem, there is someone on this campus to help you.
On behalf of all of the contributors to The Iona College Success and Survival Guide and all of the people who work in our student services, I wish you a most successful, enjoyable, productive and positive experience at Iona College.
