The classroom is not the only place where the IS student goes to enhance his/her knowledge and practice of information systems. Once per week, during club activity hour, the students get together and enjoy social and IS-related activities.
Under the leadership of IS students, the IS Club experience is designed to provide career and social activities
that will assist their transition into the work environment and enhance their academic and social interest in the IS field.
In the past years the following notable activities were experienced:
- During the previous semesters we have taken a field trip to a data center.
- During the Spring Semester students planned and implemented an alumni reunion social event that was held in Spellman Hall.
- Two fund raising raffles were organized with prizes of cash, dinner, and gift certificates for computer accessories.
- Special meetings were held to view videos on the Internet.
- Special meetings were held on the maintenance and care of personal computers with a "hands-on" session on hard disk replacement.
- Guest speakers from the Information Systems Development Area of Pepsico and a computer-based training corporation discussed careers in Information Systems.
- A collection of videotapes and CDs on specialized topics was made available for self-directed student learning. Topics included networks, databases, spreadsheets, Windows 95, Visual Basic, and PowerPoint.
- The IS-specialized lab (Hagan Room 306) was used by students to develop course projects and to help tutor other students.
