Delta Upsilon Fraternity

Delta Upsilon was established at Iona College in 1989 based on the four founding principles of the international fraternity: the promotion of friendship, the development of character, the diffusion of liberal culture, and the advancement of justice. These four founding principles reflect the high aspirations of our brotherhood and serve as a continuing challenge and inspiration toward greater excellence. Events:

The Iona College Chapter of Delta Upsilon International Fraternity take pride in not only its’ founding principles, but also the events that are held by the fraternity in order to uphold these principles. The following are some of the events that Delta Upsilon has presented in the past and some that will occur in the upcoming semester.

The Annual Miss Gael Pageant: Every Spring semester for the past seven years, Delta Upsilon has hosted its’ annual Miss Gael Beauty Pageant. Similar to Miss America, the beautiful women of Iona College try to win the hearts of the crowd and judges as they display their beauty, talent, and personality on stage. Only one contestant is awarded Miss Gael, find out who this year’s winner will be this spring!

Crush Night: Around Valentine’s Day in February, Delta Upsilon, along with Phi Gamma Chi sorority, has hosted Crush Night. This event that has taken place for the past two years has allowed students to ask their “crushes” to a dance, just like the good old days of grammar school and high school.

Wheelchair Basketball: During the Spring semester, the New Jersey Spinal Nets face off against the Iona College Gaels basketball team in wheelchairs! Sounds ridiculous? Well, believe it! This funny, but amusing fundraising event for the United Spinal Association has raised thousands for the organization since the first annual wheelchair basketball event. During the Spring semester of 2006, Delta Upsilon raised over $600.00 for the United Spinal Nets, which is used to aid those who are disabled and handicapped.

Other Events: Delta Upsilon has tried to entertain the college community for over 15 years at Iona College with the events that the organization has provided. Other events that may be seen throughout the 2006-2007 school year include: a 3-Point Shootout Contest, Movie Nights, and a Homerun Derby.
