Students Uniting for Veterans (SUV)

Then I heard the Lord asking, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" I said, "Here I am. Send me." - Isaiah 6:8

Students Uniting for Veterans is a newly founded organization exclusively on the New Rochelle campus of Iona College. It was formally started in the fall of 2011 by alumnus Maureen Cummins, class of 2012, and has since excelled in every event it has committed itself to.

SUV is compiled of students who have great support for the military and those serving in it. Many individuals in SUV have friends and loved ones who have served or are currently serving in the military.

The main focus of SUV is to play a role in the greater picture of showing support to those who have been or are currently overseas by taking part in as many fundraisers as possible for the benefit of veterans. SUV also takes the leading role in coordinating ceremonies and events on campus that are military/memorial related.

Why Join?

The positive environment enables people to learn more from others while fulfilling their choice to help service members. What separates us from other organizations is everyone has a story why they are here. There are currently veterans coming home so it is not as if the driving force behind our actionsis far removed.

In SUV, we promote a strong sense of camaraderie. Patriotism is voluntary which gives reason to why everyone in the group works well together. Many of our members have a personal desire to do what they can to be a part of a greater cause. Every idea is taken into consideration and we are always excited to see what people can bring to the discussion.
