Annual Leadership Conference

Student Leadership Conference
Saturday, February 25, 2012

On Saturday, February 25, 2012, the Office of Student Development will host its annual Student Leadership Conference from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. This is a great way for students to explore their personal leadership and take away ideas for making positive social change in their everyday lives. This year, we will introduce Iona College student leaders to the Social Change Model of Leadership formed by leadership expert, Dr. Susan Komives, Professor of College Student Affairs at the University of Maryland. This year's theme is based on Dr. Komive's book on social change: Leadership for a Better World.

Based on the CAS Standards for Leadership and coupled with the Social Change Model, the learning outcomes we hope to achieve are: Effective Communication, Leadership Development, Collaboration, Appreciating Diversity, and Civic Engagement.

To achieve these outcomes, the Social Change Model focuses on seven values (7 C's):

l

Individual:

  • Consciousness of Self
  • Congruence
  • Commitment
  • Group Values:

  • Collaboration
  • Common Purpose
  • Controversy with Civility
  • Society/Community Values:

  • Citizenship

  • The Leadership Conference is open to all Iona College full-time undergraduate day students at no charge on a first come, first serve registration basis.
