Fees & Policies

The Iona University Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic has many services available which clients and their families might wish to consider in support of their personal well-being and broader communication needs.

Here we have outlined more about our fee structure and the rights clients have when receiving services.

The Iona University Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic offers professional speech, language and hearing services at a reduced rate. Fee information for diagnostic and treatment services will be discussed and detailed at the time the client is scheduled. Payments are required to be paid online. Directions for online payment will be provided.

Please note, we do not accept third party payments or accept insurance. The total fee will be provided with your statement at the start of the semester. Fees are not refunded for absences or vacations. Services must be paid for in full by mid-semester. All accounts must be reconciled to participate in future clinic sessions.

Independent private services are also available through the Clinic and are provided by certified speech-language pathologists. For further information on these services, please contact the Clinic Director.

The Speech, Language & Hearing Clinic deems confidentiality of our clients’ health information to be of the greatest importance. HIPAA regulations and release forms are used and enforced for the privacy of all our clients. If you have any questions, please speak with the Clinic Director.

Attending all arranged appointments is a key factor in therapeutic success. The consistency and quality of treatment has the greatest potential for progress. Missed sessions may compromise potential progress and may affect the therapeutic relationship between clinician and client. As such, the Clinic has policies related to client attendance and participation:

  • Clients are expected to attend all scheduled sessions, typically once or twice per week. When cancellation is necessary for extraordinary or unforeseen reasons, attempts will be made to reschedule sessions.*
  • Services may be discontinued for any of the following, and others as identified, should they be considered chronic: no show/no call for missed appointments; arriving late for appointments; not being picked up immediately following an appointment.
  • Guardians of minor children are required to stay in the waiting area of the Clinic during sessions.
  • Ill Clients or parents of clients are asked to contact the Clinic regarding client illness, prior to coming to the Clinic, to determine whether or not it is appropriate to reschedule the appointment. Any fever, vomiting, or diarrhea is considered to be an illness. Children and/or adults should not return until all symptoms have been absent for 24 hours.

Exceptions include a note from a physician that has determined the illness is not contagious, and/or a course of antibiotics has been taken for 24 hours.

In the event Iona University is closed due to inclement weather, the Clinic will also be closed. University closure information will be available on the Iona University homepage. Your clinician will also contact clients in the event of a cancellation.

  • The RIGHT to be treated with dignity and respect.
  • The RIGHT that services be provided without regard to race or ethnicity, gender, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.
  • The RIGHT to know the name and professional qualifications of the person or persons providing services.
  • The RIGHT to personal privacy and confidentiality of information to the extent permitted by law.
  • The RIGHT that services be provided in a timely and competent manner, which includes referral to other appropriate professionals when necessary.
  • The RIGHT to present concerns about services and to be informed of procedures for seeking their resolution.
  • The RIGHT to accept or reject participation in teaching, research, or promotional activities.
  • The RIGHT, to the extent permitted by law, to review the information contained in their records, to receive an explanation of record entries upon request, and to request correction of inaccurate records.
  • The RIGHT to adequate notice of and reasons for discontinuation of services; an explanation of these reasons, in person, upon request; and referral to other providers if so requested.
  • These rights belong to the person or persons needing services. For sound legal or medical reasons, a family member, guardian, or legal representative may exercise these rights on the person's behalf.

Marriage and Family Therapy Center
The Center is a non-profit that has been in operation for more than 30 years staffed by marriage and family therapists under the supervision of licensed psychologists and AAMFT-approved supervisors. The Center was founded to meet the needs of individuals and families in stress and to promote emotional growth. Fees are based on a sliding scale.

Learning in Retirement at Iona University (LIRIC)
LIRIC serves the intellectual and social needs of a vibrant community of life-long learners. Offering a variety of experiences and formats, members have options to meet their needs and interests without tests or grades! Trips to places of cultural interest are planned each semester.
