A Green Future
The notion of environmental concerns and sustainability crosses many areas – the business world, politics, entertainment and more. Everything in our daily lives either has an impact on or is impacted by sustainability concerns.
In more recent years, the business sector has widened its scope of concern to social and environmental responsibility by considering not only the impacts of business on customers, employees and communities but the environment and resources as well.
“The business sector is definitely responding to the threat of climate change disruptions, but also to a recognition of its often negative impact on the Earth and its role in ensuring environmental sustainability,” said Rudell.
At Iona, the notion of sustainability is infused into the curriculum for business students. In addition to the discussions through courses, undergraduate students even have the option of taking specialized electives in areas such as environmental management, sustainable finance or global green marketing. Rudell teaches a course in global green marketing and spends the semester with students exploring the concepts, principles and strategies associated with green marketing and sustainable business in a global context. This includes environmental design, green pricing, supply chain issues and more.
“I hope that students graduate from Iona with a greater appreciation for their own environmental impact as citizens, consumers, employees, and future business leaders,” Rudell said, “and feel inspired and empowered to act.”
In case you wondered, the one alumni trip that Eydie Jordan has not lead since the program started in 2000 – we noted in the print edition that she had led 18 of 19 – was the very first one, to Ireland. She participated in that one, though, as a host, so really, she’s 19 for 19!
See additional interview content from Eydie Jordan in Iona College’s Office of Alumni Relations:
What countries have you visited?
Austria/Bavaria, Amalfi Coast/Isle of Capri, Rome/Tuscany, Paris/Normandy, Austria/Hungary/Czech Republic,/Slovakia, Sicily/Sardinia/French Riviera/Barcelona, Northern Italy/Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and eight trips to Ireland. In the United States – the California Coast.
Where would you like to visit next, that you haven’t already?
I am already planning the next alumni trip. I take a survey of everyone who has previously traveled with us and ask where they would like to go. Some places up for consideration are Croatia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, the Christmas Markets in Germany and Alaska. I can’t wait to see where in the world we will end up.
