NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Iona College Board of Trustees recently approved tenure for four professors at its spring meeting on campus. Iona is proud to announce Paolina Centonze, Ph.D., Computer Science; Chrissy Martins, Ph.D., Marketing; Thomas Moretti, Ph.D., English; and Carol Shansky, DMA, Fine and Performing Arts; as its new tenured faculty.
Paolina Centonze, Ph.D., Computer Science
Dr. Centonze has been a professor in the Computer Science Department at Iona College since 2011. Her areas of research include language-based security, mobile computing and cyber security. At Iona College, she is also the coordinator of cyber security academic programs, and she has been responsible for extending the Computer Science curricula into the field of cyber security. Dr. Centonze received her Ph.D. in Mathematics and MS degree in Computer Science from New York University (NYU) Tandon School of Engineering, and her BS degree in Computer Science from St. John's University.
Thomas Moretti, Ph.D., English
Dr. Moretti began teaching at Iona College in 2012. He specializes in early modern English literature, and his current research concerns the ties between religious conflict and gender performance in early modern English drama. He bases his instructional approach on central tenets of the humanities: open inquiry, intellectual stimulation, personal development, tolerance, and community. He teaches composition, literature surveys, Shakespeare and early modern English literature. Dr. Moretti earned his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park, an MA degree from the University of New Hampshire and a BA degree from Providence College.
Carol Shansky, DMA, Fine and Performing Arts
Dr. Shansky directs the Iona College Instrumental Ensemble as well as instructing classes in Music History, Music Theory, Music in World Cultures, History of Popular Music and Music Appreciation. Her research interest areas are: American Music History, community music and informal learning. As a performing artist, Dr. Shansky has performed in various venues including Weill Recital Hall, the Palais de l'Athenée, and the Little Theatre at Tanglewood and has been heard on WNYC-FM. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education and Master of Music in Performance degrees from Boston University and her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Ithaca College.
Chrissy Martins, Ph.D., Marketing
Dr. Martins began her career at Iona College in 2012 and teaches courses in Principles of Marketing, Marketing Management, and Consumer Behavior. Her research interests include consumer behavior, advertising, embodiment, nonconscious processing, gender differences, health communication, eating behavior, persuasion, and conformity. Before joining the Iona College faculty, she worked in the research department at the New York City Department of Health. Dr. Martins received a Ph.D. in Marketing from Baruch College, an MA in Psychology from The New School, and a BS/BA in Psychology and Economics from Fordham University.
