MLK Day of Service
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - On Sunday, January 22, Iona College hosted its eighth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity of Westchester and the Interreligious Council of New Rochelle.

More than 50 Iona students joined church groups from Holy Family Church, the United Methodist Church, and the New Rochelle High School of Religion to help Habitat for Humanity accomplish its goal to provide safe, affordable housing in Westchester County.

“Iona College has been collaborating for years with Habitat for Humanity of Westchester to support the cause of affordable housing,” said   Carl Procario-Foley, Ph.D., director, office of mission & ministry. “In the spirit and legacy of Dr. King we worked together with diverse houses of worship to promote housing and safety for all, not just the privileged.”

After a send-off reflection breakfast on campus, students headed to Yonkers to help install and repair siding on the Pope Francis House, while others students picked up trash, painted and engaged in beautifying a block on Third Street in Mount Vernon.
