Approximately 100 School of Business students, faculty, alumni and friends gathered in Burke Lounge for the First Accounting Dinner and Beta Alpha Psi Induction Ceremony on April 26. After a traditional bagpipe welcome by the Iona Pipers, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Vincent J. Calluzzo and Interim Dean of the School of Business Charles Cante presented the graduating members of Beta Alpha Psi with their cords, as Accounting Department Chair Jeffry Haber and Beta Alpha Psi Faculty Advisor Katherine Kinkela presided over the ceremony. Representatives and alumni from Ernst and Young LLP, Deloitte LLP, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, KPMG LLP and many other firms were in attendance.
Beta Alpha Psi, founded in 1919, is a national honor society for accounting and information systems students. Last year, Iona College’s Nu Omicron Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi was formally inducted into the international network of over 300 chapters, and Beta Alpha Psi has inducted over 300,000 members since its formation. In order to be inducted into Beta Alpha Psi, students must achieve academic excellence and participate in professional development and community service activities. Iona students have participated in the national and regional meetings of Beta Alpha Psi for the past three years.
