NEW YORK, NY - This fall, Iona College mass communication students Kathryn Adriani ’19, Julia O’Regan ’19, and Kathryn Gorman ’18, had the privilege of attending S.H.E. Summit held at 92nd Street Y on the Upper East Side of New York City. While receiving mentorship from Sports Communication and Media Professor Mike Damergis and Mass Communication Media Director Joe D’Aloisio, the students gained hands-on broadcasting and journalism experience outside of the classroom, in addition to networking experience. The students received passes through a connection made with Claudia Chan, founder and CEO of S.H.E. Summit in 2016.

The S.H.E. Summit helps empower and inspire women and men to become change agents for their society. Panels at the 2017 event included financial resources, driving progress in male dominated fields, and how to be a good leader. Notable panelists at the event were Sophia Bush, Gretchen Carlson, Matt McGorry, Amber Tamblyn and Pat Mitchell.

“After attending the S.H.E. Summit last year, I felt the need to bring awareness of major issues in our society to our college campus,” said Adriani, when asked about her feelings about attending the event. “The ability to cover the event was the most amazing experience. Kathryn, Julia, and I were able to connect with change agents and panelists.”

The three students were the only student media in attendance, and they were able to interview icons like Jen Welter, the first female NFL coach; Wade Davis, former NFL player; and Rha Goddess, New Rochelle native and current CEO of Move the Crowd.
