Iona College Students Receive Pat Martin Scholarship Awards

New Rochelle, NY (June 9, 2014) Three Iona College seniors were the recent recipients of a generous scholarship award of $10,000 each from The Patrick J. Martin Scholars Program. Michael Guzzardi, Jaclyn Robustelli and Greg Badura were each selected as this year’s recipients for their outstanding academic achievements in science.

The Patrick J. Martin Foundation, founded in 2005, is a charitable foundation primarily focused on attracting more students to major in math, computer science, the natural sciences, or engineering, with a special focus on those students with financial need.

Founder Patrick J. Martin, Ph.D., attended a luncheon with the student scholars to hear about their current research projects and future plans.

Robustelli, a resident of Yonkers, has been accepted to the Ph.D. program at the University of Pennsylvania. “I plan to study in the field of biochemistry,” said Robustelli.

North Massapequa, Long Island native Guzzardi who majored in chemistry/biology (pre-physical therapy) will attend New York Institute of Technology in the physician assistant studies program.

“Being a Martin scholar, I had the opportunity interact with other science students that are serious in their studies and their future” said Pat Martin Scholar and 2014 valedictorian Greg Badura. “It is a pleasure to be able to have lunch with Dr. Martin as he is a role model for the entire Iona College community.” A physics major and math minor, Badura of Monroe, NY will attend the Rochester Institute of Technology and has been accepted to the Ph.D. program in imaging science in the fall.

In addition to financial support, all Patrick J. Martin Scholars are guided to maximize their intellectual growth through exposure to stimulating academic and research opportunities, and educational cultural and social events. To sustain their journey at Iona College, all Patrick J. Martin Scholars at Iona are maintained by a network of support from many dedicated Iona faculty members.
