Iona College Supporting North Avenue Development

New Rochelle, NY (September 11, 2013) Iona College is making substantial progress with plans to help develop North Avenue. As such the College announces a community event and a call for proposals in response to new zoning legislation recently enacted by the New Rochelle City Council designed to encourage development of the North Avenue corridor.

This legislation, enacted this past June, was an important milestone which resulted from the work of the Community-College Committee, members of City Staff and the City Council, and neighbors, all of who worked together through complicated challenges. The zoning change not only supports Iona’s increasing need for College-controlled housing, but is also a positive step in the revitalization of North Avenue.

“Iona is pleased to engage the community in this exciting opportunity,” said President Joseph E. Nyre. “We believe the zoning change will have a significant positive social and economic impact on North Avenue, local business, and the greater City of New Rochelle.”

Iona will accept proposals to consider developments in collaboration with the community. Details about this process can be obtained by emailing Iona College at

In addition, the College will conduct an open forum in early October, to share draft renderings and concepts with the community and welcome input. Details regarding the open forum with be forthcoming.
