New Rochelle, N.Y. (June, 2016) Six faculty were presented with the 2015-2016 Faculty Awards, granted in recognition of a variety of areas including student and faculty research, integrated-service learning, service to Iona College, and innovation and excellence in teaching.
The awards are sponsored by the chairman of the Board of Trustees and the president of Iona. The recipients were recognized at the Honors Convocation, held in May, at the Hynes Athletic Center East.
FACULTY AWARD RECIPIENTS 2015-2016
THE IRENE HAMMERBACHER OUTSTANDING FACULTY RESEARCH AWARD
This award is presented to the faculty member whose achievements in research, scholarship or creative expression have had significant critical reception and are recognized nationally or internationally.
Awardee: Kim Paffenroth, Ph.D., professor of Religious Studies, chair of Religous Studies Department
THE BR. ARTHUR LOFTUS OUTSTANDING STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD
This award is presented to the faculty member who has actively engaged in research and/or scholarly activity with undergraduate or graduate students.
Awardee: Paolina Centonze, Ph.D., professor of Computer Science
THE BR. RICHARD B. POWER AWARD FOR INTEGRATING SERVICE LEARNING INTO THE CLASSROOM
This award is presented to the faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in teaching that includes the integration of innovative approaches to service learning.
Awardee: Jennifer Gerometta, Ph.D., assistant professor of Speech Communications Studies
THE BR. WILLIAM H. BARNES MEMORIAL AWARD FOR SERVICE TO THE COLLEGE
This award is presented to the faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional contributions to the College community as shown through leadership.
Awardee: Miles Beckwith, Ph.D., associate professor of English
THE CATHERINE MCCABE AWARD FOR INNOVATION & EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING
This award is presented to the faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional teaching skills, recognized concern for students and colleagues and sensitivity to the mission of the College, and a commitment to high standards of professional and personal life.
Awardee: Nicholas Beutell, Ph.D., professor of Management
THE BR. WILLIAM CORNELIA DISTINGUISHED FACULTY AWARD
This award is presented to the faculty member who is distinguished as a teacher-scholar as documented through student-and-peer-teaching evaluations and scholarly output.
