Iona Welcomes Noted Autism Expert for Bullen Lecture Series

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Iona College is proud to announce its first speaker for the 2016-17 Thomas G. Bullen, Ph.D., CFC, Memorial Lecture Series in Science and Technology. Iona welcomes Bennett Leventhal, MD, to the Christopher J. Murphy Auditorium on Thursday, Sept. 22, at noon.  The lecture is free and open to the public.
Dr. Leventhal presents on "The Study of Autism: A Parable About Science and Society." He is currently a professor of psychiatry, director of training in child and adolescent psychiatry, and deputy director of the UCSF STAR Center for Autism Spectrum and Neurodevelopmental Disorders at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Leventhal has a distinguished reputation internationally as a child and adolescent psychiatrist and is recognized for his leadership and expertise in fostering scientific career development, training and broad-based collaborative research networks that span from molecular genetics to community service and public health.
The Thomas G. Bullen, Ph.D., CFC, Memorial Lecture Series in Science and Technology is in its 27th year at Iona College and has featured several Nobel Prize winners in chemistry, peace, physics and physiology or medicine. Victor A. Stanionis, Ph.D., professor of physics, founded the Scientific and Technological Lecture Series at Iona in 1989 and has been its only director. The series was renamed to honor Br. Thomas G. Bullen, Ph.D., a legend in the science departments at Iona. Its purpose is to instill a measure of scientific awareness in Iona’s science, liberal arts and business students as well as in the general public so they may confront scientific issues as informed citizens. The series also serves to connect the Iona community with scientists achieving at the highest levels in their fields.
