Iona College hosted its fourth annual Relay for Life beginning Saturday, April 7, at the Hynes Athletics Center. The 12-hour event spread into the early hours of Sunday morning and an incredible number of volunteers continuously walked around the Hynes Center to raise money for cancer awareness. The event raised $89,040 at its completion -- and has exceeded $90,000 total since.
Iona's chapter of Colleges Against Cancer worked closely with the American Cancer Society to plan the College's Relay For Life event. These events are hosted across the country and are a signature fundraising event the organization.
"Relay for life to me means coming together as a community and finding a cure to cancer," Nikki Molfetas '17
, president of Iona's Colleges Against Cancer, told The Ionian
, the College's student newspaper.
Both the Ionian and ICGaels.com covered the event as dozens of student organizations and athletic programs participated.
