NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Iona College has announced that Sibdas Ghosh, Ph.D., dean of the School of Arts & Science, has accepted a position as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Dr. Ghosh has served as dean at Iona College since April 2013. Previously, Dr. Ghosh held positions as professor and chair of the department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Dominican University in California where he also served as associate dean of the School of Health and Natural Sciences.
“Dr. Ghosh is a gifted scholar,” said Iona College President Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D. “It has been a pleasure to work with him as dean of the School of Arts & Science and a member of the President’s Cabinet. Iona is proud to see him step into the role of provost and chief academic officer. I wish him the very best and look forward to all he will achieve at Carlow University.”
Dr. Ghosh holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Waterloo in Canada and a MS in Crop Physiology from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. Dr. Ghosh is well-published, with both personal and collaborative works, including over 38 articles/chapters and two edited books, 60 percent of which are co-authored with his students. He has made over 150 presentations at national and international conferences including the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER), Posters on the Hill, and Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). As principal investigator (PI), co-PI and collaborator, he succeeded in securing over $43.21 million for capital improvement, research, instrumentation, and conference/workshop grants for various projects at Dominican University and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. While at Iona College, Dr. Ghosh continued to publish and present his research, and contributed to many College initiatives including: significantly expanding undergraduate research support and opportunities, supporting the design and implementation of a new core curriculum, and supporting efforts to enrich the student experience.
Dr. Ghosh has said that though he looks forward to his new endeavor, he is sincerely grateful for the hospitality he has received during his tenure at Iona from the faculty, staff, students, senior administration, President Nyre and the Christian Brothers, and he will always hold the Gaels spirit in his heart. Dr. Ghosh will remain in his role as dean of the School of Arts & Science until June 30, 2018.
