The Role of the President

Iona’s Ninth President will possess a record of success in guiding a complex organization through implementing strategies that lead to progress and change, managing within financial constraints, and simultaneously recognizing opportunities for growth and investment.

He or she will serve as chief executive officer, leading, elevating and advancing the academic, financial, and administrative operations of the College. The ideal candidate will have the following professional qualifications and personal characteristics:

Education:

An appropriate terminal degree with strong leadership skills and an appreciation for the liberal arts.

Personal Qualities and Professional Attributes:

  • Ability to uphold the faith tradition and live the Mission of Iona College, embracing the traditions of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers and Catholic faith;
  • Strong academic orientation coupled with robust business acumen;
  • Exudes leadership qualities;
  • The ability to collaborate in a shared governance environment serving as a supportive, collaborative and inspirational leader for faculty, staff, and students;
  • Broad understanding of the issues associated with Catholic Higher Education and overall future trends for higher education;
  • Proven track-record of successful external relationship building; fundraising and strategic endowment growth;
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, select, develop and retain a talented leadership team;
  • Ability to develop, communicate and execute a clear vision and strategy, bringing individuals and groups with diverse perspectives to consensus and common action;
  • Understanding of the principles of effective enrollment management including the coordination of recruitment, admission, financial aid, retention, and academic and social support services, to achieve an ideal overall class profile;
  • Record of skilled problem solving of complex and/or controversial issues and mental toughness;
  • Comprehensive understanding of the holistic needs of students;
  • Demonstrated commitment to and results in increasing diversity and inclusion;
  • Commitment to shared decision making and governance, including experience working with a board; and
  • A reputation as a person of great integrity with a strong moral compass.

The Ninth President of Iona College will be inspired and inspiring. Candidates will be forward thinking, balanced by an appreciation for history and tradition; consultative, yet decisive; outgoing and engaging, with a keen intellect; creative and constructive; imaginative and innovative; tough minded, yet kind hearted and able to convey a sense of purpose, passion and humility.
