Financial Literacy

  • Conduct workshops in Personal Financial Management to expand financial literacy in young adults. The CFMS continues to sponsor a three-session workshop each semester in Personal Financial Management open to Iona students and members of the local community. The sessions are taught by an adjunct faculty member with a background in consumer finance and explore personal finance from the perspective of saving, investing and debt management. Sessions are designed around the issues that will face students as they transition from college and enter the working world. Sessions are conducted by a veteran financial executive/adjunct professor with extensive experience in consumer finance issues.
  • Host a unique six-week financial markets internship for high school students. The CFMS has sponsored unique financial markets internship for graduating seniors in high school as part of the WISE Individualized Senior Experience (WISE) internship program since 2012. WISE enables high school seniors to design and experience an individualized, passion-driven project as a bridge to college and work. The topics students can explore in school-based, experiential learning programs are limitless. As a result, students discover in themselves and in one another skills, strengths and talents they had not realized were present. Five students from Eastchester High School in New York were selected to participate in the program which is designed to provide an opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a trading floor environment. CFMS intends to continue and expand the program in subsequent years.
