BBA in Accounting, 2015

Iona College’s Hagan School of Business AACSB accreditation put me amongst an elite group of schools, being that only 30 percent of business schools around the world are proud to say they hold the accreditation. I was challenged by the academics and enlightened by the diversity of students. The small campus allowed for successful integration between business and liberal arts students. A majority of my friends were liberal arts students, but I had a solid group of friends in the business program that I could rely on for study sessions.

I declared as an accounting major because of the abundance of job opportunities, as well as the internship program available for senior accounting majors. The internship program which is sponsored through the Accounting Department and the Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development, prepares students for interviews with a variety of accounting firms, ranging in size and location, and places you at a firm. I was fortunate to interview with KPMG, a “Big 4” accounting firm, and was extended a paid internship offer. I interned with KPMG from January-April of my senior year during busy season for accounting firms, while taking classes online. At the end of the internship, I was offered a full-time position. Because of Iona College’s dedicated faculty and staff, as well as the large network of alumni, I was able to secure full-time employment before I graduated.

I was an active student leader on campus involved with many clubs and organizations. A nice feature of the student body is that they have a club for almost every interest. The sponsored events were always fun and networking events provided opportunities to meet new people. I took full advantage of the numerous networking events offered through the Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development. The friends and memories I made at Iona will never be forgotten. I would not trade the last four years for anything! As I progress through the work force, I will be sure to look out for a fellow Gael. Iona College has prepared me to Move the World. Fight the Good Fight!
