Jake Byrne '15MBA

The following are a few excerpts from a Q&A session that Executive Director Glenn Horine had with Jake Byrne ’15MBA and his supervisor about his recent internship with the New York Road Runners (NYRR), the event organizer for the New York City Marathon. Siobhan Dwyer ‘10, 11MBA, manager of Runner Services helped recommend Jake for this opportunity with the NYRR.

What was your most valuable takeaway in interning w/ NYRR?
I identified a working environment and company that best fits my interest and personality. It was an opportunity to fine-tune my communication skills and work with multiple departments and learn on the go.

Did the learning experience meet your expectations?
I met with my director on a weekly basis to evaluate my performance, which afforded me the opportunity to get comfortable with several projects that were going on at the same time. I only wish I could have worked more hours!

What was your primary role?
I was involved with several projects as I mentioned and I served as one of the leads with Air France, a Road Runners corporate partner. Here, I was on weekly calls with the client and their agency. Our team helped successfully orchestrate an event last month in Central Park that sold out with 6,900 participants. I was challenged  by weighing partner demands with NYRR’s goals and policies.

From Jake’s Supervisor – Whitney Biaggi, manager of Business Development + Strategic Partnerships, New York Road Runners:
New York Road Runners is a fast moving company where, with more than 50 plus events a year, many projects are happening at one time. Jake has done great managing a variety of projects, fully owning them and helping to provide solutions when issues arise. He’s become a huge asset to tour team in Business Development and Strategy.
