Why Diversity and Social Welfare?

Social welfare is a societal effort to help people achieve and maintain physical, emotional, and financial well-being. In our diverse society, knowing the many ways that people differ can provide new perspectives and solutions to challenges.

A minor in Diversity and Social Welfare will allow you to explore the relationship between diversity and the impact of society’s approach to helping people achieve well-being.

You will be prepared with the knowledge and know-how to effect real change in people’s lives.

What You'll Learn

You will be exposed to a wide variety of policies, programs, and services designed to improve quality of life for the underserved, people in need of health and human services.

Guided by the distinctive person-in-environment approach of social work the minor includes courses in religion, political science, sociology, as well as social work, to give you a firm foundation of the issues of diversity and social welfare.

You'll gain an in-depth understanding of diversity factors such as age, class, color, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, immigration status, political ideology, race, religion, sex, and sexual orientation.
