Computer Science Alumni Event

The Computer Science Department organized its traditional gathering of alumni, students, faculty and guests on April 24, 2015, in Arrigoni Center. The event started with the Upsilon Pi Epsilon induction ceremony, and continued with dinner, presentations and entertainment. Guests were welcomed by Dean Ghosh and Dr. Petrovic.

The program including several alumni who shared their professional paths and experiences during the event. Rachel Fraoili, Jude Murphy and Mohammad Rahman presented their experience working at PepsiCo. Additionally, Luljan Bacaj shared his experience working at a variety of different companies and positions. Several alumni also spontaneously shared their experiences. Ben Abbate and Melvin Tom spoke about their work at IBM; Stephanie Hickey reflected on her research project on health data analytics; Joe Akalski shared his experience working as a lawyer focused on patent litigations involving technologies; and Kostas Makrides, Ph.D., gave a stunning and inspirational presentation about his research in physics.

Current students displayed posters describing their projects and research, and guests had a chance to play games that were created in by current students in class. Entertainment throughout the evening was exceptional. Graduate student Willmor Peña (guitar) and his brother Sebastian Peña (quena) impressed the audience with their performance of Peruvian music. Attendees also enjoyed Dr. Ivanov’s outstanding solo guitar performance of classical rock hits. A vocal performance by current student Monica Suleiman concluded the formal program. Everyone had a great time, and the Computer Science Department is looking forward to continuing with this great tradition.
