CS Alumni Event 2018

CS Alumni and professors mix and mingle at tables and throughout the room.

Computer Science alumni Sharlene Carnegie and Joe Akalski gave inspiring speeches. All who attended, and particularly our current students, can truly benefit from the professional experiences, career choices and paths that the speakers shared with the audience. Dr. Bailie presented some details about the CS Department’s efforts to add Data Science and Entrepreneurship content to our programs. Dr. Bailie also introduced our new Computer Science faculty, Dr. Jongwook Kim and Dr. Erald Troja, who shared their backgrounds and interests. At the invitation of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Christoph Winkler introduced the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Dr. Winkler, then, led a design challenge, in which several alumni-student teams competed to find the best use for a hypothetical drone fleet. All teams came up with really strong ideas – so good, that two first place awards were given! As always, we enjoyed enormously Dr. Ivanov’s guitar and singing performances! During the event, the audience could explore the work of our current Computer Science students, displayed on research posters throughout the event hall. We all look forward to our next alumni-student-faculty gathering!
