BS Computer Science with a concentration in Cyber Security, Expected 2016
Coming into Iona College, I had a limited background in programming, but was still very much a novice. Starting freshman year we hit the ground running, learning the basics with Python and implementing more advanced theories and data structures in Java. From there I was able to explore more niche courses such as AI, and mobile application development. My sophomore year, the Computer Science Department announced a concentration in cyber security, and after taking the introductory course, I knew that it was for me. Moving into my junior year, I began work on my honors thesis under the mentorship of Dr. Centonze. She helped motivate and encourage me to work on my research.
While I have yet to graduate, Iona College has provided me with the tools I have needed to come as far as I have. I have presented my research at Eastern Washington University for the National Conference of Undergraduate Research (NCUR) as well as presenting at Iona’s first Science Symposium. Additionally, my undergraduate research and the education Iona provided helped me to be selected to participate in a paid research opportunity at the University of North Texas where I will be doing secure software testing of web and mobile applications over the summer of 2015.
