Born, raised and schooled in New Rochelle, Matthew Ricker '18 is a Mass Communication major at Iona with a focus in Broadcast Media and a minor in Media, Politics and Society.
In 1999, at 2 years old, his life was forever changed when he was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis which led him to have a profound bilateral hearing loss. Through intensive speech therapy, done at the Center for Hearing and Communication in New York City, his speaking skills greatly improved.
He graduated New Rochelle High School in 2014, and was given the Leonard Talner Award. This award was judged by the Class of 2014, for the student that "does the most for and brings the most honor to the school." He was also awarded the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence Technology Award in 2013.
At Iona, Matt is currently vice president of ICTV, advertising manager for The Ionian, host on WICR and social media manager and tour guide for the Office of Admissions. You can find him interviewing and running around with a camera on campus.
His advice to anyone that faces any type of challenge: "You can do it. As long as you set your mind to it and work hard, you will go far."
