  • Charlotte Ference, English major, has been chosen to study at Oxford in 2013-2014.
  • Alyssa Quinones, English major, has been chosen to study at Oxford in 2013-2014.
  • Kara Nowakowski, English major, co-presented a paper with Dr. Peter Chapin, Department of English, on the topic of Thomas Paine’s editorial imprint on Pennsylvania Magazine at the Thomas Paine Conference at Iona, Fall 2012.
  • Caitlyn O’Toole, English major, was the recipient of the Lipper Internship at the Museum of Jewish Heritage--A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, Spring 2013.
  • Ranisha Singh, English major, has been accepted to Teach for America.

 Scott Cleary:
  • Chosen as one of ten "early career scholars" for the Society for Eighteenth Century Studies annual seminar in July 2012.
  • Publishing an article entitled "Thomas Paine and Poetic Liberty" to be out by end of this year.
  • Published an article entitled "Resisting the Democratic Spirit: English Catholicism and the Cisalpine Movement" in "Representing Place in British Literature and Culture, 1660-1830" Ashgate, 2013.
  • Presenting a paper entitled "Thomas Paine's Second Crisis Paper and the Liberal Arts" at the Association for Core Texts and Courses Conference (ACTC) in Ottawa, end of this month.
  • Named Faculty Director of Thomas Paine Studies here at Iona.

  • Presented his paper, "Hospitable Times with Shakespeare," in the "Shakespeare and Hospitality" seminar, chaired by Julia Lupton (UC Irvine) and David Goldstein (York U., Toronto), at the 2013 Shakespeare Association of America conference (Toronto, 3/28).
