The year is 1889 and Hedda Gabler has returned from an extended honeymoon with her kind but tediously academic husband. Beautiful, self-assured and also troubled, she is already bored with marriage. Trapped by bourgeois society and disdainful of intellectual pursuits, she tries to fulfill her desires by controlling and manipulating those around her....with devastating results.
