It takes a global citizen to move the world.

To succeed in an increasingly interconnected world, you need a global perspective: a lens for understanding different cultures within our rapidly changing political and economic landscape. Iona’s International Studies major provides an interdisciplinary exploration of the world, helping you develop cross-cultural awareness and the skills necessary for a career in today’s global marketplace. The International Studies major draws from four key areas of study:
  • Political Science
  • History
  • Economics
  • Foreign Language
As an International Studies student, you’ll have the opportunity to study with faculty from a variety of departments, find internships and study abroad. You’ll gain the tools to follow and assess current political and economic events and changes, equipped with the historical and cultural context essential for understanding these events.

Drawing on our location just 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan, one of the world’s global centers, we expose our students to the wider world right here at home. And we provide abundant opportunities to study and learn in locations abroad. You’ll graduate feeling comfortable as a citizen of the world, prepared for a wide variety of careers in some of today’s most challenging and exciting fields.

Gain invaluable experience through the Soliya Connect Program

  • International Studies provides students with profound cross-cultural experience. Iona’s partnership with the Egypt-based organization, Soliya, enables Iona students to engage in meaningful dialogues with their contemporaries from the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States.
  • Students establish a deeper understanding of the perspectives of others around the world on important socio-political issues and develop 21st century skills such as critical thinking, cross-cultural communication and media literacy skills.
  • Trained facilitators from each country guide the discussions. Soliya allows students to engage in an active and dynamic learning process that encourages students to identify the issues that they want to discuss.
