BA in Mass Communication with a concentration in Journalism

As Thomas Jefferson once put it, “Our liberty cannot be guarded but by the freedom of the press.” Hundreds of years later, in a world of ever-shrinking news cycles, “fake news,” and vigorous attacks against the press, the need for highly trained journalists is greater than ever. With a concentration in journalism, you’ll develop the skills to discover, manage and report information in whatever way is necessary for the task at hand, whether that means text, audio, video, charts, graphs, social media posts or interactive media. You’ll also learn to apply your talent to other areas of journalism, including entertainment, sports, business affairs, and environmental issues. And you will develop a skill set that is in demand beyond traditional journalism outlets.

Jobs in journalism include:
  • Audience Engagement
  • Data Analyst
  • Editor
  • Print or Online Reporter

  • Radio/TV News Producer
