Dr. Jeanne Matich-Maroney, joined the full-time faculty of the Social Work Department in January 1999. Dr. Matich-Maroney came to her academic appointment with vast professional experience as a generalist practitioner, clinician, clinical supervisor, executive level administrator, and researcher in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. She holds clinical expertise in the areas of trauma and abuse well as general mental health in persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Additional areas of expertise include interprofessional and collaborative practice, program development and evaluation as well as clinical supervision.

Prior to coming to Iona, Dr. Matich-Maroney taught Social Work Practice in the MSW program at the NYU Silver School of Social Work. While engaged in agency-based practice she also served as a field instructor for several of the metropolitan area social work programs (BSW and MSW).

At Iona, Dr. Matich-Maroney has taught across the baccalaureate social work curriculum. Dr. Matich-Maroney currently serves as the director of the College’s Center for Social Research where she has gained extensive knowledge and experience in conducting community-based program evaluations in the field of drug and alcohol prevention. Additionally, Dr. Matich-Maroney serves as the Department’s assessment coordinator providing guidance and direction to the Department’s Outcome Assessment Plan and facilitating Outcome Assessment efforts across the campus.

Dr. Matich-Maroney’s research and publication interests include the impact of trauma on individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as that of pedagogy in social work education. Her E-Field Program: A Competency-Based System for the Social Work Practicum (Pearson, 2013) was nationally launched in the fall 2012. Dr. Maroney has been the recipient of several Iona College CELTIC teaching awards and was the Presidential Teaching Scholar 2012-2013.
