Dr. Kim received her MA in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and her PhD in Communication Science and Disorders from Florida State University. The focus of her doctoral research was on the role of gesture in word retrieval.

Prior to joining the faculty of Iona College, Dr. Kim pursued her clinical fellowship and obtained the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 2013. She practiced as a speech- language pathologist in California, serving children and seniors in school and rehabilitation settings.

Dr. Kim’s research interests include cognitive-linguistic impairment following brain injury and disease, specifically deficits in word finding, executive function, attention, and memory. Her desire is to promote community reentry and quality of life issues among individuals with neurological impairments through her clinical research.

Research Interests

Influence of non-semantic gesture in low-frequency word retrieval, electronic intervention (e.g., email or text) in individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other neurological disorders, role of phonological working memory in second language acquisition, and childhood and adolescent TBI.
