School of Business Graduate Certificate Programs

Certificate programs are an ideal option for students ready to take the next step toward furthering their education. Are you interested in a graduate business degree, but not yet certain that it's time to take the leap?  Did you complete a graduate degree a while ago, and now you'd like to add new knowledge and skills to your toolkit?  Or are you simply interested in taking a few courses in a targeted subject area?  Iona's graduate business certificates can satisfy any of these needs.   

A certificate can be done on a stand-alone basis or can be taken in conjunction with our MBA. These programs typically consist of four to five courses (12-15 credits) and can be completed at whatever pace you prefer (as little as two trimesters/six months).  

Advanced Certificates

Business Continuity and Risk Management (15 credits)

The Business Continuity and Risk Management certificate provides students with the knowledge to lead an organization in making systematic decisions that protect people, assets and operations. In today's world, it is increasingly difficult to ensure the survivability of an organization.  This certificate will prepare you to help your organization better prepare for the unknown and unexpected. Students can take courses in topics such as risk, disaster and business continuity management, decision technology, systems security, crisis leadership, and business resiliency, among others.

e-Commerce (12 credits)

The e-Commerce Certificate can help you better prepare to manage, develop, and implement an e-commerce system.  Students also learn how to identify e-commerce business opportunities, direct organizational change, address security, privacy and legal issues, and understand marketing issues related to e-commerce.  Students are also introduced to the technical skills needed when developing e-commerce websites.  Students in this certificate can take courses in e-commerce strategy, legal issues in e-commerce, internet marketing, internet security and privacy, and e-finance, among others.

General Accounting (15 credits)

The general accounting certificate is designed for executives and managers with a non-accounting MBA who need accounting knowledge and credibility to accommodate current or new accounting responsibilities.  Students take courses in such topics as managerial accounting, accounting standards and controls, accounting for non-business organizations, and federal tax, among others.

Public Accounting (15 credits)

The public accounting certificate is designed for post-master/MBA students who wish to qualify for licensure as a CPA, and who need additional accounting credits to be eligible under New York State requirements.  Students in this certificate must have successfully completed courses that satisfy undergraduate degree requirements in accounting.  Courses are taken in topics including research in accounting, advanced auditing, and professional ethics and fraud examination, among others.

Health Care Management (15 credits)

The goal of the Health Care Management Certificate program is to prepare students for careers in health care, a critically important and rapidly growing sector.  Students can take courses in topics such as health care industry analysis, health care management, ambulatory care management, long term care management, and health care finance, among others.

Long Term Care Management (15 credits)

The Long Term Care Management Certificate prepares students for careers in the development, maintenance, and management of long term care facilities.  It also helps students enhance their ability to anticipate the needs of an aging population. This certificate is designed to prepare graduates for licensure in New York State as Nursing Home Administrators.

Project Management (15 credits)

The Project Management Certificate prepares students to plan, organize, secure, and manage resources to bring about beneficial change or added value.  Students develop knowledge and capabilities that will help them lead and manage projects across many different settings and disciplines.  Students can take courses in such topics as project management, project finance, risk management, decision making, contract law, and total quality management, among others.

Sports and Entertainment Business Certificate (15 credits)

The Sports and Entertainment Business Certificate prepares students for success in the multi-faceted sports and entertainment business industry.  Students can take courses in such topics as talent representation, sports marketing, corporate communication, sports finance, sales management, and sports management, among others.

International Business (12 credits)

Today's business environment is more globally-interconnected than ever before.  The International Business Certificate helps students to develop the management and leadership skills they will need to succeed in international business.  Students can take courses in such topics as fashion, international marketing, international law, international economics, international finance, and international management, among others.  Courses are also offered that focus on business practices in specific geographic regions.

Post-Graduate Certificates

Financial Management (15 credits)

The Financial Management Certificate prepares students to employ financial concepts and tools in their current work, or can help a student explore a move into the financial sector.  Students can take courses in such topics as the operation of the financial system, financial strategy, e-finance, international finance, econometrics, health care finance, and investments, among others.  This certificate is only available to students who already possess a graduate degree.

Information Systems (15 credits)

The Information Systems Certificate helps students to develop their knowledge and capabilities with respect to information systems and information technology.  Students take courses in such topics as analytics, database management, analysis and design of information systems, systems security, data mining, and internet-based applications, among others.  This certificate is only available to students who already possess a graduate degree.

The Human Resource Management Certificate helps students develop their knowledge and capabilities with respect to the management, development of people within an organization.  Students can take courses in topics such as HRM, career management, web-based HRM, collective bargaining, health care HRM, training and development, and compensation, among others.  This certificate is only available to students who already possess a graduate degree.
