A chance meeting at a Mumbai college fair changed the course of Susom Ghosh’s life.
“I was interested in another college when I happened to meet an admissions counselor from Iona. She talked to me about the advantages of Iona: small classes, proximity to NYC, personalized attention. After weighing all my options, I decided to take a leap of faith and head to a college halfway around the world.”
Susom found a home away from home at Iona. “What really makes Iona special is the people, both the professors and the students.” He also appreciated the presence of the Christian Brothers. “They brought an extra element of purpose. I learned some of my most important life lessons from the Christian Brothers.”
Susom decided to double major in economics and international studies and emerged as an engaged leader on the Iona campus. Actively involved in the Model United Nations Club for four years, Susom headed up the Iona team in a number of national conferences. He was part of Iona’s top-ranked “Fed Challenge” team, and he participated in the annual Eastern Economic Association symposium for three years.
A chance to study abroad at Oxford University was another transformative opportunity for Susom. “It was a life-changing experience studying at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. I researched the economics of the European Union, which, in retrospect, was highly relevant to our global financial situation today.”
Despite a challenging job market, Susom landed a position in the equities division of RBC Capital Markets. He credits the Iona alumni network and his professors. “I will never forget the people who shaped my life and the practical lessons I learned at Iona.”
