Now a college basketball sportscaster at SNY and Fox Sports, as well as the Deputy Director of Communications for the City of Yonkers, Vincent Parise '00 was able to combine his love of politics and sports media into a successful career. Vin covers college basketball on television and the radio, both locally in the Metropolitan area, as well as nationally. Aside from SNY and Fox Sports, he has appeared on NBC Sports Network, MSNBC, MSG Networks, ESPN Radio, WFAN Radio, WNBC-NY, WCBS-NY and the Today Show. As the Deputy Director of Communications, Vin is responsible for ongoing communication efforts for Mayor Mike Spano’s administration.
Originally from LaGrangeville NY, Vin always knew that he wanted to attend a school in close proximity to New York City. He was familiar with Iona because his father, Mario '75, is an alumnus and was attracted to the school because of the great reputation of the Mass Communication program. Vin graduated with a degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Broadcast Media and received Dean’s List distinction.
In addition to his studies, Vin spent a lot of his time working in the Division I athletics department at Iona. He says that, “It was an incredible experience to work that closely with student-athletes, athletic directors, and national media personalities - not to mention being a part of March Madness as a college student. It was like receiving an additional degree in sports media. It was better than any internship in the world.” Vin’s love for sports media has come full circle. He recently joined the adjunct faculty staff teaching Sports Blogging & Podcasting.
Vin encourages students to “think beyond your course schedule, part-time job, and internship. (He encourages students to) soak it all in. Iona College has networks everywhere-you form a relationship with any industry leader in the world from that small campus on North Avenue. Not to mention, you can’t put a price on the proximity to Manhattan. When you graduate a Gael, you are a Gael for life. The Iona College alumni network takes pride in looking out for former, current, and future Gaels!”
Vin and his wife Amy Torigian Parise '03MST reside in New Rochelle with their three children, Dylan, Cole and Ryder.
