First Year Student FAQs

  • Do parents stay with the students in the residence halls?

    No, the residence halls are strictly for students. Please go here for local off campus accommodations, if needed.
  • If I have a food allergy, will I need to bring food, or can I get what I need at orientation?

    Please let us know your needs when you arrive at orientation; you will not need to bring food with you.
  • Is it mandatory for students to participate in everything on the schedule both days of orientation?

    Yes, as all sessions are informative and necessary to attend.
  • I am staying in the Residence Hall, what should I bring with me?

    • extra long twin sheets (if you have them)
    • comforter or blanket
    • a pillow
    • toiletries
    • change of clothes
    • laptop (if you are bringing one to campus) to be configured to the wireless network
  • What time do the parent sessions end on day one?

    Parent sessions on day one ends approximately at 5 pm (Breakfast and lunch are served).
  • Is it mandatory for commuters to stay overnight at the June summer orientations?

    Yes, as part of experiencing the Iona College Community the June overnight orientations are for all incoming freshmen students including commuter students.
  • What time does the orientation start?

    Move in begins in Loftus Hall between 8 – 9 a.m.; after doing so, students please proceed to Campus Safety & Security (Robert V. LaPenta Student Union) to take your ID picture. Students will then proceed to Spellman Hall and parents will proceed to Mulcahy Gym. The program will promptly begin at 9:15 a.m. There will be students around to guide you, and a continental breakfast will be available.
  • Where do I get my ID and parking pass?

    You will take your ID picture during orientation.  Both your ID picture and parking pass are gotten from Campus Safety & Security located on the second floor of the LaPenta Student Union. Students that are living on campus MUST BE JUNIORS OR SENIORS to obtain a Iona Parking pass. All academic years for COMMUTER STUDENTS are eligible.

    Once you click this link you will need to click on “Student Parking Permit” and fill out the appropriate information.  

  • Where do I go to move in the morning of June Orientation Sessions?

    Orientation registration and check-in begins on the first day of your Orientation session at 8:30 a.m. in Loftus Hall on North Avenue. Breakfast will be provided to students and their families beginning at 9 a.m.. The New Student Orientation on day two will conclude at approximately 5 p.m. with check-out at the Residence Halls.
