2019 Parent & Family Orientation Schedule

Day One

8:30-9:30 a.m.: Registration & Check-In
Location: Loftus Hall

Welcome to Orientation! Check-in your student at Loftus hall to get their key and drop off their belongings!

8:30-9:55 a.m.: Breakfast for Parents & Resource Fair
Location: Burke Lounge, Spellman Hall

A complimentary breakfast is available. You will have the chance to visit tables around the room and meet representatives from various departments on-campus.

10 -10:15 a.m.: Parent OL Introductions
Location: Mulcahy Gym, Athletics Center

Get to know the orientation leaders that will be guiding you around throughout the day.

10:15-10:40 a.m.: Getting Started: Letting College Happen
(Counseling Center)
Location: Mulcahy Gym, Athletics Center

Your student’s Iona College journey begins today! This session takes you through this important adjustment period step by step, and offers valuable tips on how to support your student’s growth.

10:40-11:10 a.m.: Student Life Support Services
Location: Mulcahy Gym, Athletics Center

Join us for an overview of campus life and the Division of Student Life support services. This session will include important information ranging from social and spiritual engagement opportunities, campus security, housing, mental and physical health, student conduct, parental expectations, alcohol policies and notifications, Title IX, and more.

11:15-11:50 a.m.: Welcome to Gael Nation
Location: Mulcahy Gym, Hynes Athletics Center

An opportunity for campus leaders to formally welcome the Class of 2023! While this is a joint session for students and families, students will be sitting with their Orientation groups.

Noon-12:30 p.m.: Career and Professional Development: Gael Ready!
Location: Mulcahy Gym, Hynes Athletics Center

Learn how the Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development supports students at every stage of their professional and career development through direct engagement and providing access to outstanding programs and resources with the goal of developing lifelong skills leading to successful and meaningful career outcomes.

12:30 - 1 p.m.: Academic Advising & Resources for Success
Location: Mulcahy Gym, Hynes Athletics Center

Learn about the offices working together to provide students guidance and support along the journey to academic success. Today you will meet the staff of the Center for Advising and Academic Services, the Samuel Rudin Academic Resource Center, and the Accessibility Services Office. Each office provides services that every student may need or use in their first year at Iona.

1-1:30 p.m.: Student Financial Services
Location: Mulcahy Gym, Hynes Athletics Center

Finalize your financial plan. Understand your student’s account and learn how to make the most of convenient online account services!

1:30 p.m.: Closing Lunch
Location: Burke Lounge, Spellman Hall

Get to know fellow Iona parents and families over lunch before heading out for the day. Offices will be open on campus if there are any remaining questions.




2-2:30 p.m.: Accessibility Services Office (ASO) (optional)
Location: Spellman Hall, 106A

This presentation will inform parents/guardians about academic adjustments and services that are available at Iona for students with diagnosed learning disabilities, chronic medical conditions, and physical and mental impairments. Important information about how to apply for these services will be provided. ASO staff will be available until 5 p.m. to answer questions and schedule individual meetings with students and their families as needed.

The ASO office is located in Amend Hall, Lower Level, GR-05, call (914) 633-2366 during the hours of 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. or email: access@iona.edu.

2-2:30 p.m.: Financial Aid Questions
Student Financial Services
Location: SFS Office, 2nd Floor McSpedon Hall

Visit with a financial aid administrator and get your questions answered. Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m., or via email at sfs@iona.edu
