Why minor in Sports Business?

The sports industry extends far beyond our favorite athletes or the teams we follow loyally each year. In fact, expertise in business concepts and practices plays a huge role in the success of sports leagues and competitive events. By studying sports business, you will not only get a window into the key business aspects of this exciting industry, but also gain valuable skills that can be applied to a variety of roles in any organization.

Why study Sports Business at Iona University?

Open to All Students

Pursue your interest in sports business – regardless of your major! This minor is open to any student as long as they have at least four full-time semesters left for their coursework.

Interdisciplinary Approach

The sports business minor is interdisciplinary and explores how traditional business fields such as finance and marketing relate to sports. In addition, students will take a course in facilities and events management that is designed and delivered by the Athletics Department.

Gain Hands-on, Real-World Experience

After the classroom courses have been finished, students complete a supervised internship in a sports organization. All students in the minor have the option of interning with the Iona Athletics Department. Alternatively, students who secure a business-related internship in sports outside of Iona may request that this placement count for their internship. This hands-on experience provides the perfect opportunity for students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to the world of sports business.
