Arthur Crames was born June 12, 1935 in the Bronx, NY. His father, Milton owned a soda shop and was a part-time taxi driver. His mother, Anna, was a homemaker. He treasured his childhood memories of neighbors and neighborhood, stick ball, movies, the DeWitt Clinton High School and Yankee Stadium.

Following high school, Arthur went to work in the brokerage business, beginning a career that would last more than 60 years. Starting as a $38/week runner in 1954, he became a Managing Director at Bear Stearns and, ultimately, an Executive Director at JP Morgan Chase, where he was still working full-time at the time of his death in 2015.

In his early 20’s, he also proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves, from 1957-1958.

Arthur was married to Dale Denison Crames for almost 50 years and eventually became the proud restorer of a family farm in her “neighborhood” of Galway, NY. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and the finest of friends. A humble benefactor, he uniquely personalized his philanthropy, meeting the needs of people and causes that touched his heart.

He was a lifelong patriot, a fabulous storyteller, a loyal NY sports fan, lover of old movies and an esteemed host, connecting and celebrating with friends and family over joyous dinners at his favorite haunts. He took great pride in his Bronx roots, his enduring Wall Street career and his rich network of cherished friends. He was a man of great character and impeccable reputation.

Arthur was a generous supporter of numerous organizations and individuals, including: The United States Marine Corps, The New York State Troopers, and numerous animal rescue agencies, including the Saratoga County Animal Shelter.

He supported this Scholarship at Iona to ensure students have access to a valuable education, and especially for children of active or fallen police officers and fire fighters.
