  • What Is Zoom?

    Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing tool that combines the ability to virtually meet across platforms and devices with the opportunity for meeting hosts (instructors) to collaborate with participants (students) through application and desktop sharing, high definition audio and video transmission, and web-based chat.   • Who at Iona College Uses Zoom?

    Only Video Conference courses offered at the Hagan School of Business use Zoom.
  • Start a Zoom Meeting

    1. Navigate to the Zoom application in your Start folder (Windows) or Finder Applications on your Mac or double-click on the shortcut to the application located on your desktop:
    2. Once Zoom is open, you will be asked to sign in to begin a meeting:
    3. Once you successfully sign into your Zoom meeting, you will see a menu. Choose the option to Start with video:
    4. Once you enter your Zoom meeting, test your mic and speakers and then click on the green button to Join Audio:
  • Invite Participants (Students)

    Once you have successfully created a new meeting with video and audio, you can invite your participants.
    1. Click on the Invite option in the toolbar at the bottom of your Zoom meeting application:
    2. Select the option to Copy URL, which you will paste into your Blackboard course or into an email message for your students.
    3. Create a link in your Blackboard course or in an email message to your students and paste the URL to the meeting.
  • Schedule a Meeting in Advance

    1. Navigate to the Zoom application in your Start folder (Windows) or Finder Applications on your Mac or double-click on the shortcut to the application located on your desktop.
    2. Once Zoom is open, you will be asked to sign in to begin a meeting:
    3. Once you successfully sign into your Zoom meeting, you will see a menu. Choose the option to Schedule:
    4. After you click Schedule, you will see a pop up window that enables you to enter settings for the scheduled meeting:
    5. Once you click on the blue button for 'Schedule' after you ensure all Zoom settings are correct, you will receive a copy of an invitation. You can copy and paste part or all of this invitation into your Blackboard announcements, a Blackboard content area, or into an email to all your students:
  • Manage a Meeting

    Manage Participants

    You will be able to lower the hands of your participants when they raise their hands. When a participant raises a hand, the instructor/presenter will see the option to lower the student hand as shown below:
    1. Click on the blue button labeled Lower Hand.

    Share Your Screen

    You will be able to share your screen with your virtual participants.
    1. Click on the Share Screen option in the toolbar at the bottom of your Zoom meeting application:
    2. Choose an application from your desktop that you want to share.
    3. Once you click on the application you wish to share, remember to hit the “Share Screen” button. Your application/screen will be shared.
    4. When you are done sharing your application with your virtual students, select the “Stop Share” option located at the top of your screen:

    End a Meeting

    1. Click on the option to “End Meeting” in the toolbar at the bottom of your Zoom meeting application.
  • Test Your Audio/Video

    It is highly recommended that you test your audio and video every Zoom session. To test your audio and video, navigate to your toolbar at the bottom of your Zoom application as shown below and click on 'Settings'.

    Testing Audio

    1. Use the menu on the left of the settings window to navigate to the 'Audio' options.
    2. Select the 'Test Speaker' blue button. A piece of music should play out of your speakers.
    3. Hit ‘Test Mic’ blue button, speak clearly into your microphone to record a short test. The test recording will play itself out of your speakers.

    Testing Video

    1. Use the menu on the left of the settings window to navigate to the 'Video' options.
    2. Using the dropdown menu, make sure the camera you want to use is selected.
    3. A preview of the camera should appear in the options window as shown below.
  • Support

    At the Zoom Support Center users can find support for their individual platform (Mac, Linux, Windows, Android, or iOS). Support includes how-to articles on features of Zoom such as testing audio, troubleshooting video and browser-based errors, and signing in and joining a meeting.

    Also at the Zoom Support Center are Frequently Asked Questions that serve as first-line support for inquiries.

    Chat Support

    Users can chat with a Zoom Support Representative from the Zoom Support Center Website.

    To initiate a chat session, please follow the steps below:
    1. Navigate to support.zoom.us
    2. From the Zoom Support Center home page, navigate to the blue link titled 'Questions' located at the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
    3. Once you click on the link as shown above, a chat box will expand. A drop down option allows you to choose the department that best serves your needs. This department would be 'Support'. Type your query into the message box as shown below and click 'Start Chatting'.
