2023 Parent & Family Orientation Schedule

Parent and Family Orientation occurs on Day One of the New Student Orientation Program.

Orientation Registration & Check-In

Breakfast for Parents & Families and Resource Fair

Location: Upper Gym, Hynes Athletics Center

A complimentary breakfast is available. You will have the chance to visit tables around the room and meet representatives from various departments on-campus. Be sure to have your “Iona Passport” stamped to be eligible to win great prizes!

9:45 a.m.
Parent and Family Welcome and OL Introductions

Location: Upper Gym, Hynes Athletics Center

Get to know the professional staff and orientation leaders that will be guiding you around throughout the day.

9:50–10:10 a.m.
Getting Started: Letting College Happen (Counseling Center)

Location: Upper Gym, Hynes Athletics Center

Your student’s Iona University journey begins today! This session takes you through this important adjustment period step by step, and offers valuable tips on how to support your student’s growth.

10:15-10:45 a.m.
Welcome to Gael Nation

Location: Upper Gym, Hynes Athletics Center

An opportunity to formally welcome the Class of 2027 and all incoming new students! While this is a joint session for students and families, students will be sitting with their Orientation groups.

11-11:40 a.m.
Career and Professional Development and Gaels Go Further Alumni Mentoring Program

Location: Romita Auditorium

Learn how the Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development supports students at every stage of their professional and career development through direct engagement and providing access to outstanding programs and resources with the goal of developing lifelong skills leading to successful and meaningful career outcomes.

11:45–12:30 p.m.
Academic Resources for Success

Location: Romita Auditorium

Learn about the offices working together to provide students guidance and support along the journey to academic success. Today you will meet the staff of the Center for Advising and Academic Services, the Samuel Rudin Academic Resource Center, Trio, and the Accessibility Services Office. Each office provides services that every student may need or use in their first year at Iona.

12:30-1:15 p.m.
Student Life Support Services

Location: Romita Auditorium

Join us for an overview of campus life and the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs support services. This session will include important information ranging from social and spiritual engagement opportunities, campus security, housing, mental and physical health, student conduct, parental expectations, alcohol policies and notifications, Title IX, and more.

1:15-1:30 p.m.
Business Services

Location: Romita Auditorium

Learn about Compass Group and Chartwells dining services on campus, off-campus eateries, and residential and commuter meal plans. Information on the Folletts Campus Store will also be provided.

1:30-2 p.m.
Student Financial Services

Location: Romita Auditorium

Finalize your financial plan. Understand your student’s account and learn how to make the most of convenient online account services!

2 p.m.
Closing Lunch

Location: Burke Lounge, Spellman Hall

Get to know fellow Iona parents and families over lunch before heading out for the day. Don’t miss your chance to win some great prizes! Offices will be open on campus if there are any remaining questions.


2:30-3 p.m.
Accessibility Services Office (ASO) (optional)

Location: Faculty Reception Room, Spellman Hall

This presentation will inform parents/guardians about academic adjustments and services that are available at Iona for students with diagnosed learning disabilities, chronic medical conditions, and physical and mental impairments. Important information about how to apply for these services will be provided. ASO staff will be available until 5:00pm to answer questions and schedule individual meetings with students and their families as needed.
