Purpose
Iona University is grateful to receive one of nine scholarships from the American Legion in memory of a distinguished ANAVICUS member (Army, Navy, and Air Force Veterans in Canada and U.S.) (92110)
History
General Frank R. Schwengel was a decorated World War I veteran who worked in marketing and advertising in the 1920s and 1930s. He retired as president of Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc. in the 1950s. A brigadier general in the Army Reserve, he was in the First Illinois Cavalry in 1903 and served on the Mexican Border in 1916. He was with the 122d Field Artillery in World War I and later, commanded the 58th Field Artillery Brigade of the 33d Division.
The General Frank R. Schwengel/ANAVICUS Scholarship is awarded annually to a sophomore or junior at Iona who demonstrates proven leadership potential.
