McNally Family Endowed Scholarship
Purpose
Established in 2021, the McNally Family Endowed Scholarship supports undergraduate students at Iona University who demonstrate high academic achievement. (61360)
History
The scholarship fund was initiated in 1999 by lona graduates:
- Edward R. McNally, Sr. (1951)
- Edward R. McNally, Jr. (1978)
- Steven J. McNally (1994)
Edward, Sr., was the first generation in his family to attend and graduate college. He became a teacher at the Christian Brothers School in St. John Newfoundland, serving underprivileged students. Edward, Sr., graduated in one of the first graduating classes from lona in 1951. He went on to teach at the university level before embarking on a career in banking with his longest tenure at the Federal Reserve Bank.
Ed, Jr., and his brother Steven, were among the 2nd generation of college graduates on the McNally side, and also 1st generation of graduates on their mother Concetta (Tina) DeMartino's side, whose parents emigrated to the United States from Italy.
Ed, Jr., spent over 40 years as a business executive. The last 30 years were with the Omnicom Group, a global marketing communications agency, where he held several senior positions, including President and CEO of Star Marketing Services Division of Omnicom. He attended lona with an academic scholarship and in turn was motivated to endow the McNally Family Scholarship together with his father and brother.
Steven McNally graduated to become an IT and web marketing professional working many years with Conde Nast, Forbes and Hearst Publishing.
