Grievance Procedures

Students whose request for a specific accommodation1 through the Accessibility Services Office have been denied, may file a complaint by following the Grievance Process.

Grievance Process is as follows:

  1. Within 15 (working) days of being informed that the accommodation has been denied or upon realizing that the accommodation is not effective, file a formal grievance to the Director of Accessibility Services at access@Iona.edu.
  2. Within 15 (working) days of receiving a formal grievance2, the Director of Accessibility Services will:
    1. Convene a committee of at least three professionals in the areas relevant to the requested accommodations
    2. Provide a timeframe by which you will need to provide evidence (see below) to support your claim
    3. Provide committee decision within five (5) working days after a decision is reached.

If the committee does not rule on your behalf, you may appeal to the Dean of the School offering the course in question (if relevant), or the Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs3, who will review all relevant materials and render a written judgment within 10 (working) days of the appeal.

If the judgement is unsatisfactory, you may appeal to the Provost and Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs, who will review all materials and render a final decision.


  1. Academic or Housing Accommodations

  2. Formal grievance should be provided in written form and include all relevant information to substantiate your claim. These may also include additional substantive documentation to support the need for the specific accommodation in question.

  3. For accommodations in the Residence Hall
