All incoming first-year and transfer students attend the New Student orientation Welcome Day program!
This longstanding campus tradition brings together new students to hear from campus leaders and take part in their official induction ceremony into Gael Nation. The schedule of the activities allows students to prepare for the academic year to begin, take tours of campus, learn the best routes to class and to have a great kickoff to the year!

9:30 A.M.:Early Check-In Begins, Hynes East
Pick up free meal vouchers, Welcome Day name tags and swag for the day!
10–11 a.m.: Honors PROGRAM WELCOME MEETING FOR NEW STUDENTS (Murphy Auditorium)
10–11 A.M.: Gaels Success WELCOME MEETING FOR NEW STUDENTS (Romita Auditorium, Ryan Library)
10 A.M.: Optional Tour of Academic Buildings

11 a.m.: Welcome Day New Student Check-In (Hynes East)
All new students check in to receive their Welcome Day name tag and free Iona University giveaways! All students are expected to take their seats by 11:45 a.m.
Event check-in will be open throughout the morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. Students arriving for early tours or taking part in the morning services are encouraged to stop by to alleviate the lines!
11:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: Iona University Welcome Day Induction Ceremony (Hynes East)
Join this time-honored tradition with your fellow new students. All new Gaels will be welcomed by senior leaders of the Iona administration, student leaders and the Iona Pipe Band. Hear from faculty members and academic leaders what to expect the first day, week, and semester of classes. Have an opportunity to ask questions and interact with faculty, staff, administration, and students. Take part in your official student induction ceremony by the Student Government Association Ceremony. We will kick-off the year with a spirit celebration and pep rally with special guests! Students will take part in the Transfer Student or Class of 2027 group photo.
3 p.m.: Commuter Welcome Session followed by Commuter Assistant Meetings (Murphy Auditorium)
Learn about Gaels 360, meet your Commuter Assistant and group for the year, and receive your student ID! All first-year commuter students are expected to attend.

5 p.m.: Welcome Back Luau (Murphy Green*)
Free BBQ, photo booth dunk tank, competitions and more!
Join this campus tradition in celebrating the start of a new academic year. All students are welcome to take part in the Luau!

Academic Building Tours (Optional)
New students are invited to sign up for a tour of academic buildings on campus. Please bring a screenshot or print out of your fall class schedule, including room assignments, to learn the best route between your classes! Group tours meet and depart from the main steps of McSpedon Hall.
